Wapping Ladies 5's - 4 Havering Ladies 3's - 1
The first game of the season saw an inexperienced 3rd team travel to Wapping.
Understandably the first half was dominated by the more experienced Wapping ladies, but the Havering cause was not helped by some basic mistakes which gifted Wapping a couple of goals.
Good work by Havering lady of the match Alice Martin who was deputising in goal and some tenacious defending by Amelia and Martine kept the score at 3-0 until half time when the team could be reminded of what was expected of them. It did the trick as Havering ladies started the second half in much more positive fashion and took the game to the hosts. Good pressing by the whole team put the Wapping defence under pressure time and again and Havering were unlucky not to score when Chloe Palmer hit the outside of the post after good work by Helen Grimes and Vicky Paxton.
Havering kept pressing and forced two penalty corners and with the teams confidence rising their rewards finally came when Saffron Harvey picked up the ball on the half way line before driving into the circle and cooly finishing.
With Havering continuing to push forward it opened them up to a counter attack and much to the relief of Wapping they scored a fourth go to close out the game.
Havering can take positives from their second half performance. The effort levels were commendable and if they tighten up their basic skills they should be able to compete with other teams in the league.
