L1 vs Holcombe

Havering Ladies travelled to Holcombe where they put in an excellent performance and were incredibly unlucky not to come away with the points. Havering completely dominated the first half, Katie Griggs, Emily Martin and Sue Harwood all saw shots and deflections go inches wide. The defence and midfield worked hard to prevent current league leaders Holcombe get into any sort of rhythm. Havering took the lead just on half time when Harwood was put through for a one on one with the keeper and duly took her chance. Havering continued with their good form into the second half but a brief lapse in marking allowed the hosts to squeak the ball through and equalise. As a result, Havering lost their shape for a short spell and Holcombe were able to take the lead through a penalty corner. Havering were unlucky not to equalise, Steph Prowse going close on a couple of penalty corners. An unusual penalty stroke decision went against Havering but Sophie McCoy saved. Havering tried hard to score with just a few minutes left but it was not to be. If Havering continue to play with the commitment and drive shown in this game they could be challenging for the top spots as the season progresses.
