Upminster Dev vs Havering 4s

Havering travelled to Coopers School for an away fixture against Upminster’s development Squad, which featured a mixture of bright young talents and some experienced veterans.

The game started fairly evenly and ebbed and flowed. The introduction of Terry Turner 20 minutes or so into the game turned the tide in the favour of Havering, who began to build pressure.

The deadlock was broken by a typically great Martin John, low, sweeping finish into the far corner. Havering went into the break level.

Shortly after half time, Upminster were level. An aerial pass from just inside their own half bounced inside the 25 yard line as was finished by a first time shot on the half volley. In this division, this was an exceptional goal.

Havering reorganised, moving James Downey to the left wing and Havering once again took the impetus. Toby John, Downey and Martin John combined several times, resulting in some fierce balls across the face of goal, two of which were narrowly failed to be converted by Will Le’Sage on the far post. There was to be no mistake at the third time of asking however, as Le’Sage struck what turned out to be the match winner about ten minutes from the end.

Havering saw the game out and enjoyed a Derby-day win against their local rivals.
