A spirited performance from Havering proved not enough as they succumbed 4-2 against table-topping Witham.

Despite a promising start by Havering it was the visitors who took the lead when they clinically capitalised on a loose pass in midfield. The lead was doubled soon afterwards and it appeared that there could be a long afternoon in store for the hosts.

However, Havering got themselves back into the game thanks to a rare goal from defender Mike Jolly, who deflected home from a short-corner. James Walker then had a good chance to level the scores just before the break, but could only hit the post from a tight angle.

Havering began the second half well but failed to make the most of their chances. By contrast, Witham were a constant threat in and around the hosts goal with their direct running and duly extended their lead when they punished another defensive error from the hosts.

James Walker pulled one back with a powerful short-corner strike but at the other end Havering failed to learn from their mistakes and conceded a fourth after once again gifting possession to the visitors in a dangerous area.

Havering enjoyed a spell of late pressure but were unable to make the breakthrough as Witham held on to further extended their lead at the top of the table.
