This Saturday havering 2s travelled to Old Loughts looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season. Despite missing Downey for the start of the match, there was a strong sense of optimism amongst the boys, topped off my Matt Kennedys’ sublime start to the match. It didn’t take long for havering’ clockwork frontline pressure to bear fruit, with Sam Dover intercepting a loose pass, laying it to Zorro at the top of the D for a beautiful finish into the roof of the net. A tight knit centre midfield and excellent pressing was the theme of the first half, topped by a row of short corners ending in a Hayden drag flick to bring the score to 2-0. Kennedy responded to the team talk about starting the second half strong by falling over his own feet (a well-deserved DoD in my opinion). A well earned penalty flick following a strong counter attack won by Tom Archer, calmly slotted away by Zorro to make it 3-0. Nerves began to creep in and Loughts had a consistent by ultimately futile stint of attacks. A ball from Haydn to Downey, who cut it back to zorro for another tidy finish. A last minute short corner saw Loughts pull one back, but it was too late and the game ended 4-1. Another excellent show from the boys at a very tough ground, a real statement to the league about our intentions. Onto the next, still unbeaten.
