On Saturday the two’s sought to grab their first home win of the season on their return to Campion against Saffron Walden’s 3s. From the start, the lads looked lively; high press, compact defending and strong ball retention meant they were fashioning serious chances.

This would come to fruition merely 10 minutes into the first half with Ollie Johnson intercepting on the halfway line after good pressure from Sam Green, Johnson drove towards the D and finished into the bottom corner with the aid of a deflection from a back tracking defender to give Havering their first goal of the season.

They showed no signs of letting up either with Sam Green going closest to adding a second before half time. Saffron Walden had seen little action outside of their own half, and an encouraging half time team talk made clear the intention was to blow them out of the water. Havering began the half the way they meant to go on, a midfield pivot of Michael Caruana Smith and Paul Johnson dictated play from one D to another. Not long after the restart by either divine intervention or a scientific phenomenon, Green would score an incredible - and on target - reverse shot from the top of the D. This was followed soon after by a fantastic solo goal by Zorro Narwal who flicked into the top corner to put victory in clear sight for Havering, and another quick-fire response after good work from Green and Mitchell Cuttell setup Ollie at the back post to secure his brace and set most nerves at rest.

To the dismay of many (particularly a very in shape and sharp Downey) a swarm of bees brought a hold to the match, before a small patch of Walden attacks would give the backline and Andy Macey in goal some work that they handled very effectively. A brilliant team passage of play finished off with a cracking shot from Zorro ensured an excellent victory. A 5-0 smashing on a home debut highlights the level this 2s team can reach this season, let’s hope they continue this throughout the year, onto next week.
