Havering began their league campaign with 2-1 defeat to a youthful Saffron Walden side.
The visitors started brightly and took a deserved lead from a short-corner. They thought they had doubled the lead soon afterwards but the effort was ruled out by the umpires.
Haydn Joslin levelled for Havering soon after the break, firing home from a short corner. The visitors argued that the goal should not have stood, but after a lengthy discussion the umpires decided to award the goal.
Saffron Walden soon restored their lead thanks to a crisp finish from the right-hand side of the ‘D’ that gave Havering ‘keeper Graham Walker no chance.
As the game drew to a close Havering had a string of short-corners but failed to convert, which proved costly as the visitors held on to the three points.
