M1 vs Letchworth

Sunday game saw Havering host high flyers Letchworth at Campion. The away side started strongly and took hold of the game with Lee Bennett being forced into some early saves. It wasn’t long until the deadlock was broken when a fast breakaway down the right was converted at the back post.

The score remained the same but on the stroke of half time Havering were awarded a penalty corner, Harry Andrews initial shot was saved by the keeper but Paul Dover was on hand to put away the rebound.

Early in the second half Letchworth regained their lead after Havering gave away possession in midfield and were punished with the away forward turning Jack Barlow at the top of the circle and calmly slotting past Bennett at the near post. Havering rallied and applied pressure on the away defence resulting in a penalty corner, Andrews swapped passes with Dover and flicked the ball into the roof of the net.

Back came Letchworth and another fast break on the right produced a similar result to the first half with the ball being moved to the back post for a tap in. In no mood to give up Havering again went in the search of an equaliser and were rewarded from another penalty corner, Andrews shot was saved but the ball fell to Verinder Channa who struck the ball over the backboard.

With time running out both sides went in search of a winning goal and it was Havering that passed up a golden opportunity to do so, Adam Willett was set free with a two on one with the keeper but failed to make contact with his attempted shot on goal. At the final whistle Letchworth were awarded a penalty corner, Havering defended the first phase well but a second corner was awarded. The away side forwards swapped passes around the penalty spot however the ball hit a foot and fell to an attacker who slapped the ball in the far corner. It was heartbreak for Havering with neither umpires picking up the infringement.

Havering will travel to Cambridge Uni 2’s next Saturday and will look to build on the weekends positive performances
