M1 vs Spalding 1

Havering went into another double header weekend with Saturdays game being the long away trip to Spalding.

The home side started the brighter and Lee Bennett was called into action from a penalty corner and Shortly after a Spalding forward raced through on goal but Bennett came out well to block the shot on goal and clear to safety. Havering started to get a hold of the game with Harry Andrews forcing a save from a penalty corner and shooting wide of target minutes later.

The second half came to life and it was Havering that scored first, after a good run down the right Liam Appleyard produced a cross and Andrews got the slightest of touches into the net. Havering continued to push and were rewarded with a penalty corner, Alastair Lewis shot on goal was stopped by a defenders foot with a penalty flick awarded. Verinder Channa stepped up and slotted the ball in the bottom corner but the goal was initially disallowed as the umpire thought the ball had hit the post, this was quickly overruled by the second umpire but there was more confusion as it was felt the ball had been slapped instead of pushed. A long deliberation between the umpires took place and a retake was awarded. This time there was no doubt as Channa flicked the ball in the roof of the net.

With just eight minutes to go Adam Willet was sent off for failing to retreat from a free hit and from the resulting penalty corner the Spalding forward sent a rocket of a flick into the top corner. With time running out the home side were then awarded a penalty flick with Bennet judged to have fouled, the flick was scored to leave the final score at 2-2.
