Havering travelled to Peterborough on a wet and windy Saturday last week to take on CoP 2’s. The visitors had only managed to field 11 for the trip due to availability/injury and this was matched by Peterborough as both team started with no subs on the bench. Possession was split within the first phases of the game with both teams playing well round the back and midfield but unable to be decisive in the final third. It was only when a deflected pass down the right for Peterborough found the run of their forward, followed by a driven ball across the D to their striker who was waiting to put in giving them the lead. Havering looking to strike back straight away began to press higher and make positive moves forward, Lewis Smith who later got Man of the Match, found room and opportunities up the right hand side which led to several short corners. It was when a straight strike from one of these found its way to Smith that Havering pulled level as he calmly put passed an already committed keeper.
Both teams came out in the same vein for the second half but naturally it became more open due to the lack of numbers on each side. Peterborough managed to get a corner which was saved well by Bennett and another goal line clearance from the Havering defence kept the home side out. Havering did have opportunities of their own with both Alex Lee and Chris Dunn through on goal but neither could seal the decisive goal as the game finished 1-1.
Havering travel to West Herts at the weekend hoping for a win.
