Havering M6s faced off against local rivals Romford in a fiercely contested friendly, kicking off at 1pm on Saturday, 28th September.

Havering showed great composure moving the ball, transitioning smoothly from defence through midfield to attack. The team played their best hockey when passing intelligently around Romford’s experienced players, who largely comprised former Division 3 and 4 players, supplemented by a few borrowed Havering players to allow the fixture to go ahead.

Particular highlights came from Havering’s use of width. On the right, George Pink, Thomas Gray, and Jack O'Mahoney combined well to create attacking opportunities, while on the left, Zach Shallow, Fletcher Hartnett, and Martin John linked effectively to penetrate Romford’s defence. These passages of play resulted in three excellent team goals — two from Martin John and one from Jack O'Mahoney.

Goalkeeper Thomas Gaut produced an excellent performance, making two remarkable saves with both pads and stick, keeping Havering competitive throughout the match. Despite his heroics, Romford’s clinical finishing proved decisive, as they scored shots to far corners beyond the young keeper’s reach.

The match ended in a narrow 4-3 win for Romford, but Havering showed resilience, skill, and determination against a strong, experienced opposition. Man of the Match went to Jack O'Mahoney for his exceptional team play and an outstanding goal.

The team now looks forward to the Havering derby next weekend with confidence and enthusiasm.
