First game of the new year see’s Havering Ladies come out victorious.

On Saturday Havering Ladies’ 2’s faced Colne at home in their first game of 2024. Eager to get a positive start in the new year Havering started strongly with good possession of the ball around the pitch. Cidney Payton and Ruby Lendon worked well up the pitch with their hard work paying off with Ruby Lendon scoring Havering’s first goal.
Shortly after the first goal Havering won a few short corners. With Emilie Molloy and Emma Isherwood working to get around the Colne runners from the top of the D. Emilie Molloy managed to put away a fantastic hit from the top into the back corner of the goal earning Havering their second goal.
Colne continued to battle throughout winning some short corners and looking to get shots off whenever in the Havering D. Fantastic saves from Louisa Sillet ensured the team kept a clean sheet. The team continued to work hard for each other ensuring continued pressure up front enabling Rae Ahemed to score Havering’s 3rd goal of the half.
As the half came to an end Nina Brennan took the ball into the D hitting towards goal, with a last moment tap in from Rae Ahmed ensuring the ball went into the goal and didn’t miss the side of the post, ensuring Havering went 4-0 up near the end of the first half.
Into the second half Havering went looking to ensure they remained in the lead. Great work from Teagan Bunn down the right-hand side and from Cidney Payton in the centre ensured Havering won a few more short corners, from one of which Emilie Molloy was able to score again for Havering.
A further short corner which went out to Emilie Molloy at the top was picked up by Teagan somewhat unexpectedly in the centre of the D to deflect the ball into the goal for Havering’s 6th goal.
Great tackles from Tash Mangion and Wendy Scofield ensured Colne were unable to break up the pitch helping to keep the pressure on in the second half. A wonderful run from Sue Bartlet down the right-hand side line into the centre of the D to try to reach a pass down the centre from Emilie Molloy was unlucky not to be converted near the end of the match.
Great teamwork from all saw the whole team be voted as a collective for player of the match, a brilliant start to the new year!
