Goals from the Semon sisters ensure Ladies 1's remain in the hunt at the top of Essex Premier Div

Havering Ladies 1s -2 Wapping ladies 3's -1

Havering hosted Wapping 3s at Campion this week. Having won 2-1 in the away fixture in the first game of the season Havering knew they were in for a tough game but one which they could win. Wapping began strongly and Havering goalkeeper, Tamara Bailey, was soon called into action and proved more than capable at preventing a Wapping score. Havering began to settle and started to move the ball around effectively and were unlucky not to score from several penalty corners, Catherine Semon going just wide. The breakthrough came when Steph Prowse's hit found Emma Isherwood who lifted the ball over the defender's stick for Alex Semon to run onto. Semon then took the ball into the circle and cleverly dribbled around the defender to slot the ball into the goal. Havering continued to attack and Wendy Schofield on a rare run into the circle nearly found a gap through. Lauren Earle, Nic Earl and Vicky Lynch constantly caused problems for the visitors. Havering went in to the second half looking the stronger team but it was Wapping who scored next from a rebound from Bailey's initial save. Wapping continued to press but Havering held firm and began to build again. Sue Harwood made several determined runs down the left wing but the final ball could not be converted, the Wapping keeper making good saves. Isherwood twice came close, once from Lynch's hit in and then, following up a rebound from Earle's strike, hit the inside of the post only to see the ball fly out and fall to Zoe Hall who couldn't react in time before the defence cleared the ball away. Several chances from penalty corners again went begging and Having looked like having to settle for a draw but determined battling from Semon saw the ball pop out to sister Catherine who forced in a strong shot which deflected in off the keeper's pads. With just a few minutes left on the clock Wapping were unable to come back and Havering sealed the victory.
