Ladies1's back to winning ways

Havering Ladies returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win at Basildon. Havering started the stronger of the teams and Alex Semon was unlucky not to get on the score sheet early on. The Havering midfield of Catherine Semon, Vicky Lynch, Hollie Dawkins and Chloe Miller dominated in the centre of the pitch and were ably supported by Nic Earle and Gemma McKenzie- Cardy. Despite dominating Havering found it hard to get the ball through to the forwards due to Basildon pulling players back to defend. The break through came when Sue Harwood took a quick free hit to Catherine Semon who passed to Alex in space in the circle. As Alex went to take the ball round the advancing keeper she was brought down. Emma Isherwood converted the ensuing penalty stroke to give Havering the lead. Havering continued to dominate but it was Basildon who scored next, one of their first times in the circle. Havering soon fought back when Sue again released a quick free hit this time to Vicky who ran the ball half the pitch to score. The Havering defence held off further attacks, Steph Prowse commanding the defending players well and half- time saw Havering go in 2-1 up. Havering began the second half strongly and continued to dominate the game, Basildon rarely getting out of their defending half but with so many players back it was hard for Havering to convert that pressure. Havering won numerous penalty corners and Catherine, Alex and Emma were all unlucky not to score. The third goal did come from a penalty corner when Vicky's strong strike from outside of the circle was deflected in by a Basildon defender. Havering were happy to take the points and hope to start another run of wins.
