Havering Ladies started their league campaign with a well earned win away at Wapping 3's. After the disappointment of relegation last season they were determined to make a good start. Things didn't go quite to plan as Wapping took the lead after a bit of confusion in the Havering defence. However Havering soon rallied and with player of the match, Lauren Earle, constantly running down the right wing and creating problems the equaliser was not long in coming. Lauren's run ended with a cross for Alex Semon who committed the keeper and slipped the ball to Emma Isherwood who tapped it into the goal. Havering continued to press with Catherine Semon and Gemma McKenzie- Cardy working hard in midfield, but could not improve the score before half time. Just into the second half though they took the lead when another of Lauren's runs resulted in a penalty corner. Emma struck the ball and the keeper got a foot to it but not enough to prevent it from crossing the line with a little assistance from Sue Harwood waiting on the post. Wapping tried to come back but good defending from Steph Wigham, Ellie Gane, Wendy Schofield and Alison Floyd prevented them from creating any real chances. When they did break through Tamara Bailey in goal was on good form. The 2-1 win was an excellent result and Havering hope to build on it to gain promotion back to the East leagues.
