Well fought match despite off field disasters

Havering Ladies travelled to Canterbury with a new look team which was unfortunately hampered by illness and a car accident on the way. Fortunately no-one was hurt. Canterbury were strong from the start and Havering keeper Sophie McCoy was called early into action. Determined defending by Havering kept the hosts at bay; Louise Burgess making an amazing top corner save with her stick and both Wendy Schofield and Charlotte Chamberlin making last ditch clearances. Havering had a chance to go ahead, Sue Harwood putting Katie Griggs through but Griggs' shot went wide. Canterbury finally broke through with some quick passing and an excellent finish but Havering held on to go into the break just the one goal down. The second half continued in the same vein with Canterbury dominating and Havering playing with gritted determination. However, with just the one sub, Havering began to tire and gaps began to appear which Canterbury were able to exploit. They converted a penalty corner and, then with 15 minutes to go, their constant pressure paid off and several goals were scrambled in as Havering fought to keep the ball out. Havering kept battling, Emily Martin finding a way into the Canterbury D, but not quite able to get her shot away. The final score saw Havering 5 goals down with none in reply. They will hope to have everyone fit and available next week when they host Gore Court.
