A second half hat trick from Sue Harwood gave Havering Ladies a deserved 3-3 draw with Basildon.

Havering struggled to find their form in the first half and Basildon scored twice, both goals coming from quick breaks that Havering failed to react quickly enough to. Emma Isherwood had the best chance, seeing three consecutive shots saved at a penalty corner. With a slight reshuffle at half time Havering started the second half strongly and were soon rewarded with a penalty corner. Isherwood slipped the ball to Charlotte Chamberlin who crossed it for Harwood to put calmly away. Havering continued to pressure and Harwood was unlucky not to grab the equaliser when her deflection from Chamberlin's penalty corner strike went up and over the crossbar. Emily Gilkes-Tarsey almost set Izy Purdie up but her well driven cross was millimetres away from Purdie's stick. Havering's defence of Bukki Olodo, Wendy Schofield, Hollie Dawkins, Sam Cash and, playing in an unusual role, Emily Martin held off the speedy Basildon forwards and Sophie McCoy made some good clearances in goal. Chamberlin began to hold the midfield well and a change to the formation allowed Dawkins and Harwood more space to attack down the wings. This change put Basildon under pressure and they began to find it difficult to know how to stop the Havering attacks with Katie Griggs and Gilkes-Tarsey creating more space and getting the ball into the circle far more quickly. Despite this it was Basildon who moved further ahead, converting a penalty corner. Havering were undeterred and with just 5 minutes to go won a penalty corner. Chamberlin again passed to Harwood who slipped the ball in, under the advancing keeper. Havering quickly won the ball back and good work from Griggs brought about another penalty corner. In an almost carbon copy of the second goal Chamberlin again passed to Harwood who put it past the keeper to bring the scores level with no time for Basildon to respond. It was a much better second half performance that thoroughly deserved the draw.
