Ladies 1's pick up their first point of the season

Havering Ladies got their first point of the season with a 3-3 draw at home to Redbridge and Ilford. Havering began strongly and Charlotte Chamberlin hit in an excellent ball to Emily Gilkes-Tarsey who turned with the ball to slot it past the advancing keeper and put Havering ahead. The pace of Izzy Purdie and Emily Martin proved difficult for the Redbridge defence to cope with and they both kept making great runs down the wings. Emma Isherwood and Gilkes-Tarsey combined to set Purdie free and she took the ball round the keeper to extend Havering's lead. Strong midfield play from Chamberlin, Sue Harwood and Hollie Dawkins kept the pressure up but Redbridge began to close their defence. The visitors began to rally and create some chances but with keeper, Sophie McCoy, making some good saves and Havering's defence of Bukki Olodo, Wendy Schofield, Sam Cash and Emma Sharpe holding firm Havering went in to the break 2-0 up. The second half started on equal footing, both teams having chances but neither able to capitalise until Martin was put through by Purdie. She committed the keeper and then slipped the ball to Isherwood for an easy tap in to an open goal. Redbridge however were determined to fight back and pulled back 2 quick goals. With just minutes to go Havering looked like hanging on for their first win of the season but, with a little bit of luck, Redbridge found a gap and secured the draw. Havering will be disappointed to have squandered their lead but will take heart from the way they played and scored.
