Close battle with local rivals but Havering bag a valuable 3 points

Havering Ladies resumed their campaign away at bottom placed Thurrock. The break showed as Havering struggled to find the form that had taken them to joint top of the league. A few chances went begging, Rhiannon Goulden inches away from deflecting Amelia Acreman's excellent pass across the goal, Emily Gilkes-Tarsey and Emma Isherwood both just going wide. Havering maintained their patience and their pressure and it finally paid off with a penalty corner. Catherine Semon's fierce strike was saved, Isherwood swept the rebound towards goal and Sue Harwood calmly popped the ball past the keeper. Thurrock defended well but found it hard to release their forwards, Steph Prowse, Charlotte Chamberlin, Wendy Schofield, Louise Burgess and Harwood all breaking down potential attacks. Havering increased their lead soon after again from a penalty corner, Isherwood slipping to Anna Webb who struck the ball well into the far corner of the goal. Thurrock pulled one back just before half time during a moment of confusion as Havering didn't pick their players up and the ball evaded keeper Sophie McCoy. Havering still found it difficult to find their usual rhythm as the second half began. Again they stayed mainly in the Thurrock half but just couldn't find a way through. An opportunity came when Webb won the ball and ran half the pitch uncontested before slipping it to Isherwood who slipped it back only to see Webb clipped by a defender and slip. Lauren Earle, Chelsea Sharp and Webb all put passes in and Chris Noller and Gilkes-Tarsey saw shots saved. A penalty corner brought a third goal for Havering, Noller stopping well for Isherwood to thump in an inch perfect strike. Thurrock were determined to get something from the game and pulled another goal back but there was too little time left for another. The result puts Havering at the top of the league.
