Tunbridge Wells sneak victory despite a good second half performance from Havering

Havering Ladies travelled to Tunbridge Wells this week hoping to build on their victory last week and maintain their position joint top of the table. Unfortunately it was not to be. After a somewhat hurried warm up Havering found themselves on the back foot for the first 10 minutes. Good defending by Steph Prowse, Chris Noller. Sue Harwood and Wendy Schofield and saves by Sophie McCoy kept the game goalless. Havering began to settle and started to impose themselves on the game and were rewarded with the first penalty corner of the match. The deflection from Anna Webb went just wide. Tunbridge Wells came back again and this time took the lead through a penalty corner. Noller, Webb, Catherine Semon and Emma Isherwood combined well to try to pull one back but stalwart defending prevented scoring opportunities. Havering began the second half with more determination. Harwood made good runs from the back and Semon kept working hard in midfield supported by Lauren Earle, Amelia Acreman and Emily Gilkes-Tarsey. Havering created a few chances, Emily Martin working along the wings to cross but the following shots were saved. Rhiannon Goulden also went close. Tunbridge responded well to the pressure and scored a second from a quick break. They kept up the pressure but with 7 minutes to go Havering pulled one back, Webb deflecting in a penalty corner. Havering pressed on but Tunbridge dug in well and an equaliser was not forthcoming. Havering will hope to fare better when they host the new league leaders, Burnt Ash this Saturday.
