Havering always in control

Havering Ladies hosted top of the table Canterbury 2As at Campion determined to put the previous week's poor performance behind them. The game began strangely as Canterbury had just 7 players arrive in time despite delaying the start. However this was the case for just 2 minutes! Havering began strongly and it took some timely interceptions to deny them scoring opportunities. They kept building though and if Emma Isherwood had been more composed she could have put Anna Webb's through ball away. Canterbury started to settle into the game and the Havering defence of Steph Prowse, Louise Burgess, Charlotte Chamberlin and Wendy Schofield worked hard to prevent them reaching the circle. Sophie McCoy in goal made several good saves and Havering resettled to go on the attack again. Catherine Semon's penalty corner strike was neatly deflected into the goal by Sue Harwood and Havering went into half time one goal up. The second half began well as Harwood drove down the right and her cross found Isherwood who slid the ball into the goal. The Havering midfield of Semon, Chris Noller, Amelia Acreman and Webb began to dominate and put passes through to the forwards of Isherwood, Webb, Noller, Emily Martin and Rhiannon Goulden. A few penalty corners went unconverted but Havering continued to battle and a third goal came when Semon slapped in a rebound. Martin battled well to win the ball in midfield and slipped to Harwood who was left with a one on one with the keeper. She stayed calm and slipped it through as the keeper began to advance. Canterbury were determined to stay top of the table and fought to pull one back but there was not enough time left for them to close the gap any further. Havering will hope to maintain their form as the travel to BBHC next Saturday.
