Ladies first string overcome a strong East London side in top of the table clash

Havering Ladies travelled to Lee Valley to face the team at the top of the league, East London. It proved to be another hard fought battle with neither team able to grab a break through. Havering keeper Sophie McCoy pulled off a number of saves but Havering had opportunities themselves which the East London keeper kept out. Catherine Semon, Amelia Acreman, Lauren Earle and Sue Harwood all worked hard in midfield but found it hard to get the ball through to the forwards of Rhiannon Goulden, Anna Webb, Chris Noller, Emily Gilkes-Tarsey and Emma Isherwood who were working hard to try to create space. The first half ended goalless and Havering knew they had to perform better if they were to take maximum points from the game. The second half began in much the same way, Havering finding it hard to settle into their normal play. The break through finally came when Webb earned a penalty corner; she and Semon combined for Semon to score. Havering were determined to hold on to their lead and with the defence of Steph Prowse, Charlotte Chamberlin, Wendy Schofield, Louise Burgess and Harwood closing down attacks East London were kept at bay. The 1-0 win keeps Havering second in the table, just one goal separating them from top.
