Saffron Walden 4's vs Havering 3's

The Havering 3s travelled away to top of the table Saffron Walden 4s knowing only their best performance could garner them a win against a tough opposition. They were however confident, taking to the pitch after their strong win the week before.

Things did not go to plan however as the Home Team pinned the 3s back with some early pressure and dogged tackling - with all players on the pitch swarming and cutting out any effective Havering possession and attack. This resulted in an early Walden goal, with the ball squirming unfortunately past a diving Havering GK

Havering heads did not drop however, although they were unable to string together many decisive passes or remain in possession for long due to some quality play. Walden quickly capitalised repeatedly with some swift attacks, resulting in a half-time score of 4-0 to the home team.

After a reset at half time, Havering took to the pitch in a changed manner, stringing together a number of counter attacks and really giving the home side a run for their money. They were however once again wasteful during their short corners, something that is becoming a common theme in recent weeks, and a brilliant flick by Greg Carolan over the keeper was unfortunate to not be converted by Leo Yang

Despite a stellar second half performance from GK Lonnie Yang, which included a number of dives, a few 1 on 1s and 2 goalline clearance saves, Walden were able to score their 5th and final goals in the last 10 mins of the match

A defeat for the 3s but nonetheless a spirited performance by the team particularly in the second half. Despite the scoreline, there were many positives to be taken away and the boys know that against weaker opponents, this would have been a closer game. A particular shoutout to the Havering GK who, without a number of fine saves from him, could have ended up with a much heavier loss.
