East London Men IV 2 – Havering Men II 3
An innovative new formation saw Havering a crucial win in a tight game in the east end.
Havering started brightly and had the best early chance as Greg Mawdsley blasted over from close range, but went behind early on after a defensive error. The visitors were fortunate to level before half-time as the East London 'keeper failed to keep out a shot from Mike Caruana-Smith that spin past him over the line.
Havering were much improved in the second half and took the lead though Caruana-Smith's deft finish from a short-corner. Their lead was extended soon afterwards as Mawdsley fired into the roof of the net from a tight angle, atoning for his earlier miss.
East London hit back late in the game, but Havering managed to retain possession to see out the game without alarm.
