Havering were looking to return to winning ways against local rivals Upminster in what would turn out to be a very entertaining, end to end game of hockey.

Havering came out strong, but Upminster proved to be the more dominant force in the first half and kept Havering penned in. However, after some nice build up play between the back and midfield line, Havering began threatening Upminster's defence with some dangerous counter attacks. This eventually culminated in a lovely run down the wing from Greg Carolan who expertly took it past the Upminster defender, drove it down to the byline and gave an inch perfect pass for Luke Clarke who deftly slotted it into the goal. It was a lovely goal which was a result of the preceding training sessions and composure.

Havering went into halftime buoyed by the goal and a resilient defensive performance. All Havering had to do was see off the next 35 minutes for a crucial 3 points.

Havering started the 2nd half well, and another good Havering attack materialised. Havering captain Ryan Lee played a piercing pass from right back to Luke Clarke who was in Upminster's 23. He proceeded to cut inside and pass the ball to Greg Carolan. Greg took the ball round the keeper. Unfortunately, with Greg having a severe lack of finishing skills (as showcased by his miss of the season last week) he followed it up with an arguably worse miss of the season (so far) this week to the team's disbelief. A 1 yard miss is going to be hard to beat, but I'm sure Greg will follow it up with some good goals as the season comes to a close.

The bad news continued to follow for Havering where Mitchell Cuttell decided to bizarrely shove an Upminster player in front of the umpire which resulted in a 10 minute suspension. It was a very silly penalty to concede. Mitch deservedly received the ire of his teammates as this left Havering with a huge disadvantage. Upminster capitalised with the man advantage and scored twice in very quick succession.

This left Havering dismayed. Whilst there were some chances towards the end, nothing of note happened and Havering came away with 3 points thrown away.

Havering will look to next Saturday's rearranged fixture vs Romford, where it really is a must win for a chance of survival.
