2s turn a corner!

After a disappointing result last week, Havering 2's were looking to bounce back against Braintree 2's who were in a similar position to them in the table.

The Havering men's section had a plethora of players available this week, with the 2's managing to field a strong 14 players - a first for this season.

Havering started off well with a few good balls into the opposition's D, but unfortunately couldn't find the clinical edge to get in front. Braintree then began to play some good hockey which put the Havering backline under pressure. The pressure eventually led to a misplaced back pass from the Havering defence which Braintree capitalised on and finished emphatically.

Havering didn't let their heads drop however and continue to play good hockey from the restart. This led to a few short corners for Havering where one of them Alex Lee took from the top. Alex turned the 2 defenders rushing him and struck it powerfully into the goal to bring Havering level at the half.

After composure was emphasised during the half time team talk, Havering started the 2nd half on top and was awarded another short corner for their efforts. This short corner routine fell to Greg Carolan who struck the ball in a somewhat dodgy manner, but it bobbled over the keeper and went in. Some would say he meant for the ball to do that ...

Havering were 2-1 up with around 30 minutes remaining and Braintree kicked into a higher gear to try and salvage the game. They were on top for a good 20 minutes but thanks to the effort of the team - with a special mention towards James Walker, Mitchell Cuttell, Lucas Afteni (playing out of position) and man of the match Jon Harris, Havering were resolute and weathered immense pressure.

Braintree became more frustrated and Havering produced a brilliant counter attack which saw Mitch produce a killer pass to James Walker who finished off with precision round the keeper into the bottom right hand corner. This sealed all 3 points for Havering and was a brilliant performance by the team.
Havering 2's 3-1 Braintree 2's

Havering will look to build on this performance going into the local derby vs Upminster next weekend.
