Gaz Ingram scores four to send the Men's 1's third

Havering entertained Ely City at Campion on Saturday looking to bounce back from the disappointing defeat the previous week away at IES and welcomed back Chris Dunn, Mike Hinton and Mike Smith with Olle Cipa being the only casualty through injury.

Havering controlled the early stages of the game and went close on a couple of occasions most notably Harry Andrews deflection forcing a good save from the visiting keeper. From the first penalty corner of the match Gaz Ingram's shot was blocked on the line by a defenders body and a penalty flick was awarded. Ingram stepped up and made it 1-0.

A few half chances came and went for Havering but it was the visitors who got back on level terms against the run of play. Awarded a penalty corner the initial strike deflected up off Paul Johnson's stick and was deflected into the goal past a helpless Joseph Cole. As in previous weeks Havering responded poorly to this setback and soon found themselves 2-1 behind from another penalty corner.

The second half started in the same manner as the first with Havering having the majority of possession and were awarded an early penalty corner, Adam Lumbers teed up Connor Poulain who deflected the ball into the net to bring the scores back level. Sensing the game was there for the taking Havering continued to push forward, Poulain done well to find space at the top of the D and slipped the ball left to Ingram who walked onto the ball and smashed it into the bottom corner to regain the lead.

Ely were now beginning to struggle with the intensity Havering were playing at and conceded a fourth goal, Alastair Lewis was the provider searching out Ingram at the top of the D, Ingram took the ball on his reverse and shot across the keeper to find the bottom corner giving the visiting keeper no chance. Havering wrapped up the win with a fifth goal as Lewis again turned provider crossing from the right for Ingram to grab his fourth goal of the afternoon with a neat reverse stick deflection.

Havering are now back up to third in the table but will need to find some consistency next weekend when they travel to West Herts 2's who have an excellent home record if they are to stay in the promotion hunt with the Christmas break approaching.
