Three goals, three wins and third in the Premier B table

Havering were looking to make it three victories in a row as they hosted West Herts 2’s at Campion. Captain Harry Jenkins and forward Alex Lee were unavailable for the clash but Havering welcomed back Chris Dunn into the squad for his first game of the season after illness.
Despite a rather lethargic warm up Havering started the game on the front food and controlled the early possession winning an early Penalty Corner with Liam Appleyard’s deflected effort missing the target. However it was not long before the first goal came as Harry Andrews picked up the ball on the left and entered the D firing a reverse stick effort across goal, Appleyard was on hand to deflect the ball past the visiting keeper.
It was a positive start for Havering who managed to keep the upper hand but West Herts equalised against the run of play, Jack Barlow attempted to intercept a long through ball but the ball deflected in behind sending a West Herts forward through on Lee Bennett’s goal calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner.
This setback appeared to knock the home side’s confidence as West Herts started to control the game with Havering struggling to keep any real possession. Things got worse for Havering before half time as poor marking allowed the away side to attack down the left and cross to an unmarked player on the far post for an east tap in.
The second half started as the first had finished with West Harts having the majority of possession. Havering were let off on two occasions as a Harts forward fired over the bar with a reverse stick shot and a Penalty corner effort going just wide of the post. Surviving these early scares Havering finally started to find there rhythm again and mid-way through the half bought the scores level. Chris Dunn bundled through two defenders at the top of the D and slipped the ball left to Stuart Garnell who flicked the ball back across the keeper into the far corner of the net.
Havering now had the momentum and with ten minutes remaining got the final goal of the match as a composed team move down the right hand side found Andrews on the baseline who pulled the ball back to Paul Dover who fired the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal. Shortly after Garnell had an opportunity to make the game safe as he was sent through one on one with the visiting keeper but was unable to get his shot off after being closed down by a recovering defender. Bennett made a crucial save within the final minutes and Havering held on to claim another vital three points.
A third win in a row for Havering sends them to third in the Premier B table but they will face a tough test next time out when they travel to second placed Cambridge City.
