Havering lose out in a tight game

Havering started the season by hosting IES at home in what turned out to be a very frustrating day for the home team. Havering started the game well and enjoyed good possession in the IES half however were unable to break the deadlock early on. Havering did however get the first goal with a great solo effort from Stuart Garnell; once he had brought down an aerial he took on the keeper and scored on his reverse one handed. IES pulled one back before halftime at a short corner. Bennett made a good save off the initial shot however Havering couldn't clear their lines and IES scrambled the ball over the line.
Both teams enjoyed possession in the second half however it was IES youthful team that prospered as the game went on, even though Havering went 2-1 up with a well worked short corner. IES continued to press hard and managed to break away several times putting pressure on the Havering defence. They couldn't hold out, after letting in one from a man down short corner they then let in another in open play to find themselves 3-2 down. Then minutes before the end Havering were awarded a penalty flick but couldn't convert and ended up losing a game they probably didn't deserve to.
On to Cambridge Uni next week.
