Ill-discipline by the home side allow Havering to take control along with the 3 points

Havering 1st XI continue to find form as they travelled away to Old Southendians at the weekend. The game followed the same flow throughout with Havering controlling the ball comfortably in defence whilst Old Southendians set up a half court press. Havering’s patience held strong and when they saw the opportunity to go forward they did with precision and pace. A well worked move up the left saw Havering entering the D and when the initial shot was saved, man of the match Connor Poulain was there to put Havering in the lead. Old Southendians did see some joy down the right side of the pitch and their best opportunity to draw level came near the end of the first half, however a superb double save from keeper Bennett kept the visitors ahead at half time.

The structure of Old Southendians proved harder to break down in the second half and funnily enough it was only when Havering were reduced to 9 men did they manage to get through. A well worked piece of hockey up the right saw Havering into the opposition’s D, where a composed pass provided Harry Andrews with a simple tap in to double the lead. The score line ended the same and frustration showed for the home team as one of their defenders picked up a straight red card for a professional foul near the end of time. It was a solid performance for Havering who look to take this momentum to Wisbech next week.
