Bury St Edmunds vs Havering

Havering travelled north to Bury St Edmunds and thankfully the long journey paid dividends.

Havering started slowly with the home side pressing high and dominated possession . Only the post and some good fortune kept Bury at bay and the score remained 0-0 until midway through the half.

As the half moved on Havering began to get a foothold with the defensive line asserting their dominance and the midfield controlling play in the middle of the pitch.

Three goals were scored in quick succession, Paul Dover, Liam Appleyard and Hayden Joslin converted well from opportunities manufactured by solid interplay from the experienced Havering side. A special mention to Alistair Lewis who made the second goal via a spectacular 60 yard ball to the forward line.

The second half delivered much of the same with the skilled home side being thwarted by the vigour and tenacity of the Havering side. Havering were rewarded with two more goals from Paul Johnson and Sam Green to secure the fixture.

Regrettably poor discipline and a lack of concentration at the close of the game resulted in two late goals for the home side, who to their credit didn’t stop playing despite the 5 goal deficit.

The game finished 5-2 with Havering the deserved victors. A great result for the newly promoted side who have stepped up to the challenge offered by the higher division. MOM Jack Barlow and Liam Appleyard. Great performance from both.
