With two matches to play, Mens 1's seal promotion with 1-4 win over City of Peterborough 2's. Next game vs Ipswich likely to be the title decider.

Promoted!

Havering beat City of Peterborough 2s 4-1 in this away fixture to secure promotion into East Premier A with 2 games to spare.

It was an uncharacteristically slow start by Havering as they were finding it harder then usual to feed their forwards, struggled to create neat chances and had to contain COP attacks. Despite COP best efforts though, the away team’s defence - once again marshalled impeccably by Harry Jenkins and Jack Barlow - held well and Joe Shearer-Rust in goal was only seriously threatened once by a reverse hit from the top of the D which he managed to smother away to safety. Havering managed to break the deadlock through Ollie Cipa though as he managed to squeeze the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs from a very tight angle. Havering players relaxed after this and the quality of play improved. A few short corners went wasted before Gaz Ingram stepped up to dance past 2 players before smashing the ball against the backboard with a strong hit. Gaz Ingram added to his tally once again before the break as a deflected ball fell kindly into his path. He sprinted towards goal and gave the goalkeeper no chance as he rounded him skilfully before calmly flicking the ball into the empty net.

The second half was almost academic with Havering’s main aim being to stop COP from getting back into the game. COP had an excellent opportunity to reduce the margin but they somehow managed to squander an advantageous 3 v 1 situation without managing to test the goalkeeper. At the other end Gaz Ingram fired a cross in the D from the right which Marcus Hall converted into a goal on his second attempt. The 4-0 scoreline did not last long as COP pulled one back following a goalmouth melee which the Havering defenders and keeper did not manage to clear. Both sides had a few half-chances before the end of the game but there were to be no more goals for a final scoreline of 4-1.

The team now sits 5 points clear at the top of the table and the game against Ipswich next week will pretty much decide which team ends the season as Division Champions.
