Crucial 4-0 win for Men's 1's as Title rivals lose

Havering were in control of this game from start to finish maintaining control of the ball for long pe-riods. Despite this, the first few minutes were jittery and Long Sutton were allowed to run at the Havering defence with a couple of dangerous counter attacks. Joseph Shearer-Rust in goal blocked the first of these counter attacks with a timely block at the top of the D while Jack Barlow made an excellent last ditch tackle to stop the second one before Long Sutton could have a clean shot on goal. Havering settled down after this and started creating numerous chances and winning short corners without ever running any dangers to concede. All of these short corners were floun-dered by Havering and lack of composure in the D meant that the break through only came 2 minutes from the end of the first half as right back Adam Lumbers managed to deflect in a ball that was bobbling across the face of the goal.

The second half started as the first half had finished with Havering rooted firmly in the Long Sut-ton’s half. It was not long before Michael Caruana Smith found Ollie Cipa on the T-spot, Cipa in turned found Paul Dover who was fouled as he was hitting at goal. Glen Noller stepped up to calmly fire the resulting penalty flick in the roof of the net. Havering kept pressing forward and the home team’s midfielders’ tireless work was rewarded by them winning possession regularly in good posi-tions. The third goal came courtesy of man of the match Glen Noller who rounded the keeper and hit in crisply after collecting a Marcus Hall through ball from the right hand side. There was still one more goal before the end of the game as Alex Simpson spectacularly finished a well worked short corner move that came straight off the training ground.

This win helped Havering cement their place at the top of the table and means that they now need just 1 win from the last 3 games to confirm promotion into Premier A.
