Early goal opens up the game for a 9 goal thriller

Havering could not have wished for a better start to this game as Alex Simpson scored an excellent team goal after just 40 seconds. Havering players were expecting more goals to follow but unfortunately this did not materialise and as the half went on Waltham Forest managed to push higher and higher up the pitch creating chances of their own. This spell led to a deserved equalising goal following a short corner move.

Havering players, however, were determined to retake the lead and launched themselves forward. They won a penalty flick halfway through the half but Ollie Cipa’s effort was saved. He made up for this miss shortly after, smashing home Havering’s second. This lead did not last long as Waltham Forest managed to equalise again a couple of minutes later to end an eventful first half.

The second half started with Havering players knowing that they needed to step up their work rate if they wanted to take all three points home. Led by man of the match Mike Caruana Smith, the team managed to pile on the pressure very high up the pitch and created many good chances out of which three were scored: Ollie Cipa got his second goal following good work by Simpson, Glen Noller converted a penalty flick confidently, before Simpson completed his own brace.

At 5-2, the game seemed done and dusted but Waltham Forest refused to throw in the towel. They managed to work their way back into the game by scoring two goals in the last five minutes culminating in a tense finale that also saw a Waltham Forest player foil a one to one opportunity against the keeper. In the end, Havering managed to hold onto an all important win that keeps them in touch with the top of the table.
